FAQ

Why do you ask for an email address when signing up?

Your email address is needed to use certain features of the site, like the password reset or comment notifications. We don't spam. For details on how DamnGoodRecipes.com uses (or doesn't use) information, please see our privacy policy.

Why do I pick ingredients from a huge list when submitting a recipe rather than just typing them in?

Selecting from a fixed list allows searching based on ingredients you have on hand. If you can't find an ingredient in the list, please contact us.

You have sweet potatoes and yams listed as separate ingredients. What gives?

Those are two different plants. That's why. Not the same thing.

Isn't garlic salt and garlic powder the same thing?

No! I dare you to try using garlic powder in a recipe that calls for garlic salt and vice versa...

I see you list tomatoes as a vegetable. Technically a tomato is a fruit.

I know, I know. Most people consider a tomato a vegetable, so it's listed that way so it doesn't confuse people. Plus, tomatoes often appear near the vegetables in a grocery store. At some point I'll probably categorize the ingredients to more closely resemble a grocery store.

Can I edit a recipe after I submit it?

Yes. Go to My Account and you'll see a list of recipes you submitted with an option to edit.

What does it mean to save a recipe as a draft?

When your recipe is saved as a draft, it will not appear when people search for recipes and will not appear in the category listings. This lets you begin entering a recipe, save it, and continue entering the rest of the information later. Once you are finished, you can take it out of draft mode so that everyone can see it. This comes in handy for large recipes. Also, if you are a mean bastard and don't want to share your recipe with the world, leave it in draft mode.
