The seedlike fruit of a biennial Eurasian herb (Carum carvi) in the parsley family, having finely divided leaves and clusters of small, white or pink flowers, used as a seasoning.

Substitution for 1 teaspoon caraway seeds:

1 teaspoon anise seed
