Ingredients (serves 5)

  • 6 cups water
  • 3 onions ; small, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 cup chickpeas ; cooked
  • 1/2 cup lentils ; dried
  • 1 teaspoon mint ; dried
  • 1 cup barley ; dried

  • You will also need: saucepan

    Directions

    Heat oil in a saucepan and add onions. Saute until golden. In a large pot, combine all ingredients except for the chickpeas, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 1 to 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add chickpeas with about 10 minutes left of cooking time. Serves 5.
