Ingredients

1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup milk
vegetable oil ; for frying
2 cups all-purpose flour ; sifted
1 egg(s) ; beaten
3 tablespoons butter
2 cups apples ; dried
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon ; ground
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder

Preparation:

Place apples in a pot with enough water to cover. Simmer, covered, for 30 to 40 minutes. Let cool and drain. In a medium bowl, combine salt, flour and baking powder. Cut in the butter. Add milk and eggs, and stir to form a soft dough. Roll it out thin, and cut into 4 circles, about 5 inches in diameter. Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl. Place about 1/2 cup of the apples into the center of each circle and sprinkle with sugar mixture. Fold over, wetting the edges with milk and sealing with a fork. Fry in oil at aroun 370 until golden. Drain, and serve with ice cream if desired. Makes 4 pies (servings).
