Apple Cranberry Sauce

Cranberries and apples! The perfect autumn side dish.

Original recipe serves 6.

Ingredients

4 large apples ; use Gala or Fuji, peeled and cored
1 cup cranberries ; fresh
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 cup sugar

Preparation:

Cut apples into 1 inch chunks. Place in a large pot with the rest of the ingredients, except the lemon juice. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low and cover. Cook for 20 minutes, or until apples are tender and sauce has thickened. Add a little water if mixture is too dry. Uncover pot and mash apples with a fork. Add lemon juice and stir.
