Add oil to a large pot and heat over medium flame. Add flour, stirring constantly and cook until flour begins to turn golden brown
. Slowly stir in broth using a wire whisk
and cook for 2 minutes. There should be no lumps. Add all ingredients except okra. Bring to a boil, reduce
heat, and let simmer
for 20-30 minutes. Add okra and let simmer for additional 15-20 minutes. Remove bay leaf. Serve with rice. Makes about 6 servings.
