Japanese Fried Shrimp

Shrimp breaded with panko bread crumbs and deep fried

Original recipe serves 4.

Ingredients

1 cup panko bread crumbs
1 pound shrimp ; peeled and deveined, with tails left on
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
2 egg(s) ; beaten
1 quart vegetable oil ; for frying
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation:

Place the shrimp in a large bowl and season with salt, pepper, and the garlic powder.

In a separate small bowl, combine the paprika and flour.

Keep the eggs and panko bread crumbs in two separate bowls.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 375F (190C).

Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture,  the egg, and then the panko, turning to coat, then place into the fryer.

Fry a few shrimp at a time until golden brown, for about 5 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve.
