Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1/2 cup sugar ; plus another 2 1/2 tablespoons
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil ; plus more for frying
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • You will also need: saucepan, deep fryer


    Combine salt, water, 2 tablespoons of oil, and  2 1/2 tablespoons of the sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.  Bring it to a boil and then remove from the heat.

    Stir in the flour until the mixture forms into a ball of dough.

    Heat oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer until it reaches 375F (190C).  Use a pastry bag to pipe in strips of dough into the hot oil.  Fry the strips until golden. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

    Combine the cinnamon and 1/2 cup of sugar in a bowl. Roll the churros in the sugar mixture and serve.
