Mandoline slicer

Usually made of stainless steel, a mandoline slicer is used to thinly slice foods, usually fruit, vegetables or cheese, by running them over a blade. Some slicers have a blade height adjustment that allows control of the thickness of the slicers.

To use a mandonline slicer, hold one edge on a firm surface such as a counter or cutting board with one hand while running the food over the blade with the other hand.

Care should be taken to avoid cutting fingers as the unsliced portion of the food gets closer to the blade. Some slicers come with an extra grip or food holder that keeps fingers away from the blade.
