Baste

To baste means to brush drippings, melted fats (like oil or butter), or other liquid over food as it cooks. A bulb baster can also be used to drip the liquid over the food. Basting is a technique frequently used in grilling or roasting meats to give it flavor and to keep it from drying out. Fatty roasts do not need to be basted if cooked fatty side up.
