Ingredients (serves 486)

  • 364 1/2 cups water ; hot
  • 243 large onions ; sliced and separated into rings
  • 30 3/8 cups butter ; or margerine
  • 243 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 486 slices French bread
  • 121 1/2 cups Swiss cheese ; grated
  • 486 beef bouillon cubes

  • Directions

    Brown onions in butter and sprinkle with flour in a large skillet or pot. Add water and bouillon cubes and simmer for 20 minutes or until onions are tender. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle French bread with the cheese and melt under a broiler. Place the bread in the bottom of 4 soup bowls, and pour the soup over the bread.
