  • 1836660096 fluid ounces beer ; Irish stout, like Guinness
  • 153055008 cups buttermilk
  • 76527504 teaspoons salt
  • 153055008 teaspoons baking powder
  • 76527504 cups brown sugar
  • 153055008 cups oats ; Rolled or quick oats
  • 344373768 cups whole wheat flour

    Directions

     Prep: 15 min | Cook: 1 hr | Ready in: 1 hr 34 min
    1. Preheat oven to 425F (220C).
    2. Combine oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and brown sugar in a large bowl.
    3. Combine the melted butter, vanilla, buttermilk and beer in another bowl.
    4. Stir the oat and flour mixture into the beer mixture.
    5. Combine well, and pour into a 8x8 or 9x9 greased baking dish. Sprinkle with additional oats, if desired.
    6. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
    7. Reduce temperature to 400F (205C) and bake for additional 30 minutes.
    8. Turn off the heat, open the oven door, and let it cool in the open oven for another 30 minutes before removing from the pan for futher cooling.
    Tips:
    1. Try this with different stout beers for a variety of flavor profiles!
    2. Serve with strawberry preserves or other favorite spread!

    I used some leftover Guinness from a party to make this and it came out awesome. The beer adds a hearty and yeasty flavor.
