French Onion Soup

A quick version of the brown soup with onions and melted cheese.

Original recipe serves 4.

Scaling (About scaling and units)
Halve it | Double it | Triple it | Reset
Ingredients

3 cups water ; hot
2 large onions ; sliced and separated into rings
1/4 cup butter ; or margerine
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
4 slices French bread
1 cup Swiss cheese ; grated
4 beef bouillon cubes

Preparation:

Brown onions in butter and sprinkle with flour in a large skillet or pot. Add water and bouillon cubes and simmer for 20 minutes or until onions are tender. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle French bread with the cheese and melt under a broiler. Place the bread in the bottom of 4 soup bowls, and pour the soup over the bread.
