  • 5878656 whole apples ; Granny Smith, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 419904 cups sugar
  • 839808 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 419904 cups brown sugar ; packed
  • 839808 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 209952 cups water
  • 2519424 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 419904 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 419904 cups butter
  • 839808 pie crust, 9 inch, double

     Prep: 15 min | Cook: 1 hr 5 min | Ready in: 1 hr 20 min
    1. Preheat oven to 425F (220C).
    2. Melt butter in a large skillet, add flour, and stir to form a paste.
    3. Add sugars, nutmeg, vanilla and water. Bring to a boil.
    4. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
    5. Meanwhile, place apple slices in a large bowl. Add cinnamon, and turn to coat.
    6. Place bottom crust in a pie pan. Arrange apple slices in the pan, mounded slightly.
    7. Carefully pour about 3/4 of the sugar sauce mixture over the apples.
    8. Place top crust onto the pie, making a few slits.
    9. Brush top with remaining sauce. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon, if desired.
    10. Bake for 15 minutes at 425F (220C). Reduce temperature to 350F (175C), and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes more.

    This was a hit this year at Thanksgiving!

    Awesome! Everyone loved this, especially the glaze on the crust. I will definately make this again. Be sure to place the pie pan on a cookie sheet before baking, because the sauce will likely bubble over a bit.
